A proper cornish christening

oh yes – the summer of love has begun.

Cornish style of course.

i let the faggot talk me into a late afternoon surf yesterday at Perranporth.  of course i was reluctant at first, overcast and cold, but he kept talking until i said yes.  What a result.  we hit perran just after 5 pm, the skies were clear and the sun was out.  I waxed up the new board and scrambled down the rocks to the beach.

there was a small and calm wave that would be just perfect for me after a 10 month lay off – and it was perfect.  we surfed for a couple of hours while the tide was on the push and just had fun like we used to 5 years ago before i left blighty.  After the surf, we hit the blue bar in porthtowan and sat on the terrace eating while the sun set with a pint of guiness.  it was just like old times, blissful, peaceful and a perfect finish to the end of the day and the first day of my summer.

Of course, my new board got damaged on the way to Gatwick but to help soften the blows, there was one seriously hot red head hostess on board. I am a complete sucker for red heads, especially if they have freckles and blue eyes, and she had it all.  Her name was Sarah and she was simply stunning.

I felt compelled to leave her my number, i just hope she calls.

so once again in palma.  will be here until monday i guess and then i can head home and start the summer of love in earnest.

be sure to stop by again soon to ee if she calls

Cold in Cornwall

I decided to do things differently .

I sat at the back of a squeezy jet plane , a place I normally avoid due to the screaming kids, but this time, I really pushed my luck and shared a seat with a mother travelling alone with her baby, Freia.  Cute kid and quiet too, not a peep out of her during take off or landing, which I put down to the way her mom dealt with her and kept her entertained throughout, with good old fashioned toys and glove puppets.

Ok the kid was so very cute that I could not resist trying out the squeaky glove puppet and entertaining both her and her mom.

Been a while since I have been in England and I am amazed at how smiley and happy the people are, especially after suffering with a plane full of easyjet  mockney chavs!  My uk Vodafone chip still works after what must be over a year of absence from the country – a very pleasant surprise.

The simple pleasures of a full size double bed and soft soft sheets dragged me into a deep sleep last night, but I still woke up at 06.00 – I guess it will take a couple of days to re-adjust.

Gatwick north terminal is a pretty cool place as far as airports go.  Shops are good, place is clean and bright, although I just had a very surreal moment walking through all of the glitz.

I just bought a new set of phones for the iPod with an extra long lead so that it will reach from the lowest pocket of my baggies.  I was stooped over my bag sorting them out, finally when I stood, I played an old Depeche Mode tune ‘ it’s no good’ . as I stood, I did feel a little light headed but that made the walk through the terminal feel very funky, no outside noise, just music and a busy world rushing about all around me.

Then of course I saw it – that amazing arse!!  I never saw her face, for all I know, she could have been a real BOBFOC (body off Baywatch, face off crimewatch).  I was even prepared not to walk along the conveyor and just stand behind her to watch it but to my surprise, she walked and wiggled all the way to the end, and so did I , but with a very cheeky grin on my face.

It almost made my plane delay a pleasure!!

The fat lady is warming her vocal chords!!

Finally, the time has come.  at midday today, i officially finished work.  At 6pm tonight local time, i will be boarding my plane back to blighty, heading straight for my executive suite at a hotel near to gatwick.  So let me just recap on my latest adventures.

In september last year, i flew to norway, then took a flight further north into the arctic circle to join the good ship Nariida. We set sail for mallorca the day after i arrived and covered almost 3000 miles by the time we arrived in mallorca.

From there, we sailed onto tenerife and prepared the boat for a transatlantic race to St Maarten.  Lucky for me, i was surplus to requirements for the race and took ten days off in portugal.  After that, i flew to St Maarten to rejoin the boat and a 5 month stay in the caribbean, taking in St Maarten, St Barths, Monserat, Nevis, St Kitts, Antigua, Martinique, British Virgin Islands and a couple of other islands whose names i forget.

At the end of april, we sailed back across the atlantic, stopping in the Açores for fuel before arriving back in mallorca for a three week work period, some 4500 miles later.

Then the final leg.  To the greek islands and the azure blue waters of the ionian, calling at such hotspots as, Kefalonia, Ithica, Zakynthos, Paxos and of course, a couple more i can’t remember.

So tonight, i fly to gatwick, tomorrow an internal flight to newquay and a couple of days in cornwall before heading back to mallorca to get my stuff and then finally home to portugal in about a weeks time.

So be warned – the summer of love is almost upon us.  this year i promise to fully document my adventures, and this year, without censorship!!!!!!!!!

Stand by for action

two trips to england planned, a 5 dayer in july for a wedding and then almost a full month in september for training based in southampton – i hope that wont hurt too much, i am not sure if i can manage a whole month in england any more.  make a note of it now, my mobile number for england is +44 7833 787 117.

so, wednesday, we leave for corfu

i cant wait to get home for the summer

A Decade under the influence

It is strange how events can change your life and how you feel about yourself.

It doesnt feel so long ago, such a glorious sunday afternoon, 8 friends, 8 motorbikes and england as our playground.  Spirits were high and all of us were looking forward to our day out.  No-one would have expected 2 accidents in one day.  One – a relatively simple trip into a ditch and the rider walked away, the other, not so, ending with a triple fatality, ironically, so close to home.

Trauma is best avoided whenever possible, although that is not always an option.  Describing the immediate aftermath is hard.  Of course the whole scenario seems unreal at the time.  The carnage at the scene was violent, an impact of real life, not hollywood.  Three lives taken in an instant.

The real trauma was only just beginning for others.  Watching others deal with the loss was not something i can not even begin to describe, even with an extensive vocabulary.  To say their world was torn apart would be a mellow-dramatic understatement.  Watching how they changed over the following years is beyond description.

Looking back on this time, i can agree now that it was a moment that began a change in the way i viewed what is important in life.  At that time, i was on a heady corporate climb, bouncing from sucess to sucess.  After this event, i began questioning all of my values.

More would follow

In the following five years, three more friends would dissappear.  Two, also claimed by road accidents, both stunningly beautiful girls, both not 25 years old.  Then, the hardest telephone call ever.  Silence on both ends of a telephone line as i heard the words ‘ I have cancer ‘ .  The only response i could muster was to honestly tell them ‘ I don’t know what to say ‘ .  He died not two weeks later.

Questioning your values in life helps you on your own journey.  Having past experiences helps you along the way when you are getting a little lost with your own direction.

Many people say it, i wonder how many of those people realise exactly what they are saying – life is short!  Enjoy it while you can.

I have to thank Ryan, Debbie, Princess Kirsty and Graham for showing me a different way.  If they were all alive today, i dont know how much contact i would still have with them.  There is no doubt in my mind that i owe them greatly for enlightening me into the way of life that i now enjoy so fully.  Would i give it up to have just one of them still alive – of course yes – in an instant.

Collectively, they all taught me something.  They taught me to say ‘ fuck it ‘ when things are shit and i want more out of life.  Collectively, they give me the courage and inspiration to continually move on, try new things and to know just how lucky i am to be alive.

Irony – best left to the foreigners

Sometimes in life – you have no idea what to do, other times – you have no idea what you are doing.

The free BMW has of course now been won – the 20,000 visitor to my site was infact………………oh, wait a minute, and this is what i call complete irony, the winners name cannot be disclosed because they have asked me to remove all mention of their name from my pages so……..mystery person……….please leave your name and address on the page and i will arrange delivery and ownership papers for you!  Now, extreme irony is that the 20,000th hit was infact that person doing searches for their name!!

Irony – can just about bite you on the ass when you least expect it….

So on a lighter note – i quit my job on the boat.  i have also had some good news from the MCA (maritime & coastguard agency) which means i can apply sooner rather than later for the Y4 exam.  on the down side, they also confirmed all of the courses i need to do, so instead of spending a grand, i now have to spend 4 !!

I will begin looking for a new boat in september, either to go back to the caribbean again , and while i am there i can take my next dive ticket, or i will look for a refit for the winter here in palma – not really bothered which but i will need to save another 20 grand to pay for my exams.  After they are complete, i can expect a payrise of between 50 and 100% so you can see, it is worth investing.

Lizzy Lizzy Lizzy Lizzy Lizzy

I often wonder where my inspiration went.

i can promise though that it will be back soon , just as soon as i get home to portugal.

went out on the sniff last night in palma.  It can be a funny place.  Hogans, the irish bar, is a real meat market – i have to say , i really didnt enjoy it last night. the same band, playing the same tunes gets boring after a while

A big cheer though for the dude on the balcony with the Bernard Matthews beard – full and fluffy.  and he really got the funk when the band played michael jackson.  I reckon he was infact Mason’s long lost brother.

Bumped into a couple of chicas last night that i first met a year ago.  You may remembr me talking about a dilema of the 18 year old from ecuador.  How much people can change inside a year.  Last time i saw her, she was an innocent non smoker , non drinker and very sexy to look at.  Now, still sexy but with cigarrette and pint in her hand.  I , of course have always found girls that drink pints , very attractive, as i have girls with black tights, but it was a big change none the less.

So stand by for a summer of fun, surf and rabid blogging.  it wil be one to read all year long.  Will promise to pull no punches this time and give all details, however unappropriate

spread the work – the naked surfer is back!!

back in the day

i was just reading some old pages in my blog, no, not reminising but apparently there is mention of an old girlfriends name in my blog and she is getting a little bit tetchy about it.  She has asked me to remove it and i will but i need a little inspiration as to what i can replace it with.  Of course, i dont want to delete the whole passage but it would be fun to make a comedy substitution.

Couldnt help but notice that i also used to write with much more passion – more vigor – more inspiration.  well, that has temporarily been sucked out of me by a small disease we call ‘work’ but soon i will be back with a vengance.

I am due to leave the boat around 20th June and that is when my 6 month holiday begins.  I promise to write with joy, integrity and juice too if and when it occurs, my search for a hot latina will begin once i return to portugal.  I will fill you in with all of my antics on my new longboard, i need a name for that too, my house repairs and my general loafing around in the sun while you lot have to work.

I wonder if i might meet my hot latina while here in spain.  I am confident that this is the year that t will happen but surely i need to get surf fit first? all this loafing around and living on a boat with a full time chef hasn’t been kind to me.  I am sure though, that a month at home will sort it out.

Coop, the old slut has threatened to come and join me in portugal for a while, i wonder if she will manage it.  I have a day in lisbon before i fly out and will happily show her around. might even try to sell her for a few euros but i doubt she will fetch much – she has a lot of miles on the clock and also, there are only two things that smell of fish, and one of them is fish !!!!

I am staying at masons pad while in mallorca, glad to be off the boat and in a full size bed for a change.  Mason continues to be a complete cock and is currently the biggest nob end i know ( apart from russ in portugal!)

anyway – enough for now

send me name suggestions for the ex and for my new board.  maybe i could switch them around?  call her ‘groovy nose rider’ and my board ‘lineke’ ??

I love Lisa Melvin

finally made it into mallorca yesterday afternoon after a gruelling yet enjoyable 4300 miles of open ocean.

Some things confuse me though – i have been away since december and had 2 bank cards expire – one of them ran out in january and i had no idea until i went to the bank today.

how can i survive for so long without going to the bank ?

Tomorrow morning i am off to portugal for the weekend but will be back in Mallorca for monday to start work again.

It was a fun trip, lacking for many months in dolphins but we had some treats as we got back into the Med.  I tried with the camera but am just too old and slow.

The free BMW is still up for grabs, remember, the 20,000th visitor gets it and i can tell you we are less than 200 away now so keep clicking.

My new surf board is still waiting for me, i am only 7 weeks away !!!!!!

Finally, i would like to dedicate this blog entry to the very gorgeous Lisa Melvin, one girl who successfully avoided my charms for many years, and i promise, it wasnt for lack of trying.  Drop dead gorgeous, business smart and single, she really would make a good wife for me but she keeps letting me down.  If you doubt my judgement, take a look through my photo albums here on the blog page, look for an album called `The Melvin Chronicles’  she is definately worthy of my attention.

so for now – i continue to dream

back soon
