moonlight surf
just had a late one at mareta, west coast was huge today, too big to get out. maybe it will calm for tomorrow
bugs life
i have them all. bugs that crawl under my door and then get squashed by my flip flop, i have a pet geko, which has just had babies, and of course how could i forget my green preying mantis?
today, no work, a little shopping and a little surf at tonel this afternoon. tomorrows forecast looks good.
wind speed, 5kph, swell from the north west, 2.5 metres and a 15 second wave interval. best time suggested at 7pm, so a sunset surf at arrifana could well be on the cards with the tide on the push.
bought a salamandar for the house today and also a new kitchen cabinet for just 35 euros.
tonight, after i have watched friends, i will fix it to the wall………does my life rock or what ?
todays surf
after finally getting out of bed at 13.30 today, i headed to lagos for a full enlish breakfast and to look for a kitchen cabinet.
some portuguese joker told me he wanted 200 euros for a used kitchen cabinet with doors that didnt match!!!! just because he saw the english number plates on my car – what an ass hole
after such an insult, there was only one thing to do – surf!
hit beliche, the only place to have a wave. not my favourite place as the wave pitches vertical real quick ……. to quick for me, i always get nailed there! today was no exception.
still havent got the longboard back from the menders yet, need to give the 8´6´´, i managed to damage that too – so a straight swap is on the cards.
maybe i will call him tomorrow.
back to work tomorrow, maybe this week i will finally find someone with a JCB to dig out my driveway.
anyway enough for now, friends is on at 8.45, series 1, all good
all creatures great and small
well, most of them are small and wierd looking. i am seeing loads of scary things that i have never seen before, some scary, others just get squashed with a flip flop!
tomorrow is a day off, have to buy a few more things for the house and then the work starts. hope to get at least an hour in the water too. if i am lucky, all will be peachy.
eclipse photos
ok, i couldnt attach them.
if you want to see them, ask and i will mail them on to you – they are worth it
it rained today
nothing too serious but rain all the same, for much of the day too. good thing really, russ tells me 97% of the country is now officially in drought.
had a surf this afternoon at barranco, no one else there except a dude who was driving my old carlton – that brought back memories! road trip and all.
sandra has gone back to lisbon , so this week i have to make good at least one bedroom in time for when the old folk get here – should be interesting, new wires, new paint, new lights, new floor tiles, new bed – just about new everything.
my belgian neighbours are very sweet but a little overwhelming. whenever i arrive home, they want to talk……and talk…..and talk……and drink wine and beer…….and talk.
had a solar eclipse this week, not full in the algarve but in the north, it was proper. sandra sent me some pictures, will try to add them next. also check out the surfing dog, something cool!
will work hard this week, if i have a break in work, might grab a quick surf but will try to focus on my nova casa.
so that will be all for now – do you realise i have almost been here for a year?
too much to do
so my weekend has been consumed with house stuff.
new beds, which i nearly lost off the roof of the car on the motorway back home, some new furniture (flat packs of course) lots of garden work and some plumbing too.
have hot water, a fully functional cooker, washing machine and a fridge to boot!
by wednesday, the man should have been with the JCB to dig out my drive way so that i can park on my garden instead of the road.
roof beams and ceilings all treated for woodworm, trees manicured, canes cut back.
tonight i sleep in a freshly made and constructed bed.
so yesterday, the old lady came to take the rest of her stuff, two car loads and a pick up truck too. i couldnt believe how much crap she had kept, even her family were saying most of it was rubbish. i picked up an old wooden cutting board that was full of woodworm, i couldnt believe she had kept it. then i got to thinking how poor a region this is and how bad it must have been when she was growing up, then i realised why she had kept so much stuff.
in contrast, west coast had three metre swells today. one of my surf buddies told me it was too heavy to paddle out at some beaches. I havent surfed all week, been too busy with other stuff.
tonight, i am heading to rita and peter´s house for a private party. they are the owners of the bubble. have a house in the middle of nowhere, no piped water, no electricity just a generator to run the water pump from the well, and some solar panels too. what a great view they have though – and a great pad!
last night i went to a birthday party in lagos. i didnt know the dude but he was angolan. so an african night was on the cards. great fun, and boy can those dudes and dudettes groove.
so that has been my week so far. wednesday is a bank holiday, sandra is coming on tuesday night – havent seen her for over two weeks, boy have i missed her (dont get the wedding cake out just yet mom!!),
no doubt we will have a lot of catching up to do
ok, so i have to leave now, make my way to the party.
i hope you all have as much sun as i do this week but i very much doubt it – te he hee
moved in
and to celebrate, my new neighbours cracked open a bottle of champagne.
sometimes life can be glorious, at all other times it can just be damn fine and peachy.
to to summarise
all is very very sweet
tomorrow is D-Day
finally, after 11 months of renting a place in the algarve, i finally get to move into my own house – bought and paid for, no mortgage to worry about.
tomorrow morning i take christine to the airport, then stop to buy some beds and other crap , theni have three days to get the place habitable. First on the agenda, water heater on the wall to get hot showers, then, change that hideous shower curtain.
loads to do, three days solid to do it, and two parties if i can make them, one on saturday, one on sunday……….watch this space.
i am looking forward to spending my first night in my new pad. will be a little creepy i guess , will be as quiet as my apartment now but completely dark as there is only one streetlight in the area.
my very gorgeous girlfriend arrives on tuesday night for the rest of the week, wednesday is a bank holiday so might even make it to the beach.
loads of things to do so might not make it back here for a few days.
today was absolutely roasting hot – i have no idea where that came from, i did hear rumours of 28 degress but i reckon it was more than that
meet the neighbours
today i met my new neighbours – twice.
they are belgian so this will lead to some interesting conversations.
this afternoon, the old man helped me trimming my trees. twice my age , and extremely drunk, he fired up his petrol chainsaw and started to cut. fearing an accident, i went to the other side of the garden and started cutting with my saw.
later , his wife brought me some home made jam, made from the figs from my tree, tasty it was too.
the old boy kept offering me beer but i told him not while i am working, settled for tea instead.
tomorrow i have to work with the CFT but i have a day off on friday to buy furniture.
in stark contrast, the west coast had 3 metre swells today and light offshore breeze – had to spend time at the house
