Gunt

it`s a new word for me but for complete clarity you might like to check out www.urbandictionary.com and that will explain it for you.  I have only been recently introduced to the word, and even been out on a gunt hunt with my camera to no avail!  It seems the day I decided to go gunt hunting was the only day in Rhode Island that was officially a babe fest! either way, I added some photos to the ‘America 2012’ section – feel free to take a look.

Lets talk about running for  a moment.  On monday I managed to peg my longest run ever.  How far ?  10.2 miles to be exact.  I was running for 1 hour and 45 minutes or thereabouts.  I burned close to 1800 calories, which is not far off my daily calorie burn if I sat on my arse for 24 hours. I was impressed too, because I didn’t feel completely wanked out after it – and that has to be impressive. So I am now pushing to reach half marathon distance and then I can compete – now that, I am looking forward to.

Today is thursday and I have managed two other 3.7 mile runs since my 10 miler – which aint too shabby if I say so myself.  Tonight, I found myself finishing the last mile with quite a burst of energy, in fact almost 8 miles an hour after more than 3 miles of pounding – I am not complaining.

Better still, when I got to the yard and stopped running, I really didn’t feel like I had just ran in excess of three and a half miles.  Thinking back to when I started in October last year, I couldn’t run half a mile, so I am extremely chuffed with that – and better still, am getting leaner by the day.  Last time I checked, I had hit the elusive 95 kilos.

facebook is dead – finally, after cancelling my account 10 days ago, they switched it off – although I did still get some referrals to my engineer web site via facebook.  Anyway, my point is this – have i missed it?  not one fucking bit ! Do I trust them with my info? Not one fucking bit. Do I care that I can’t see every piece of mundane boring shit that people I know feel obliged to post on a minute by minute basis?

No I do not !!

Dead in the water – so no more baby photos or horse photos to endure on a daily basis. I was of course worried that there might be someone I need to get in touch with but was that really justification for keeping the account active ?  Of course not – that was born out of fear of deleting my account.

I urge you all – delete your facebook accounts and go and do something more worthwhile instead.  Eating babies is more worthwhile than posting on facebook, it is such a crock of shit.

Of course, I did try my hand at Twitter too, although I can already see the lack of interest here after only three or four days of twittering.  If you are curious, you can find me on twitter too as ‘earl of beresford’ although you might need to write that as earlofberesford instead. Something tells me I wont be there for long!

So boat wise, all is finally in order.  PTO’s back on and functioning, we now have thrusters. Tomorrow we leave for Fisher Island, I am told, 37 miles form here, where we pick up for the next 10 days. I am almost at the end of my probationary period too.  Not that I am worried that they wont want to keep me – I think they might be more worried that I wont want to stay – it has been a baptism of fire it is fair to say.  nevertheless ( I like that chain of words) it is still the best option for me so I will stay on.  Where else would I find a boat where I can have a mountain bike, surf board, dive gear and my running shoes aboard?

Talking of surf board – I accidentally dropped it through the engine room emergency hatch today.  As it clattered down the stairs and onto one of the generators I chuckled to myself, safe in the knowledge that I had just experienced the exact reason why I bought a plastic board rather than a fibre glass one – they are just much tougher and can take the shit!!!

So I am about done.  I had an 8 flusher the other day – I thought I was about to beat my record of a 10 flusher (giving it a push on the tenth as it just wasn’t moving) but on the 8th, weighted with a wad of bog roll, the solid first section finally gave way and collapsed into the abyss that is ‘the shitter’ and disappeared for ever !  All that was left for me to do was get the bog brush out and clean up the skiddies !
